How to use Peer Room
- Enter your name and start a room, or open a room invitation and ask to join.
- The host approves up to four guests. Choose files and the people who should receive them.
- Receive offered files, follow the outgoing and incoming queues, and save checked downloads before closing the page.
One room, everyone can send
Peer Room is for a small team exchanging drafts, photographs, notes or project files while everyone is online. The host shares one invitation and approves four people. Every approved participant can select files and choose one or more recipients. You do not need to create a separate sharing link for each direction.
Five active deliveries, a queue for the rest
Each person has five outgoing delivery slots. Sending the same file to two people uses two slots and two uploads. Extra deliveries wait in order. Recipients must accept offers; each device receives up to five files at a time. Pick up to 20 files per batch and keep up to 100 unfinished deliveries. Clear completed entries to make space in the bounded history.
Save verified copies
Every completed file is checked with incremental SHA-256 before a memory download is offered or a disk write is committed. Small files up to 32 MiB use a shared 128 MiB receive memory budget. Save and remove checked files to free memory. Supported desktop Chrome and Edge can receive larger files directly to a chosen file or folder. Choose a folder once to receive batches there, with unique filename prefixes.
Direct connections, no file relay
The host coordinates membership. File bytes move directly from sender to recipient, including transfers between guests. The server handles signed safety metadata, not file contents or file names. PeerJS signaling and public STUN services help devices connect. This cannot guarantee connectivity through every router or firewall. A blocked route needs another network or hotspot.
Two hours, including transfer time
The room ends two hours after creation. Everyone must keep the page open and awake; the host must remain online. There is no background upload, cloud copy, transfer resume or extra-time button in Peer Room. Interrupted files restart from the beginning. Checked downloads can still be saved from the open tab after the room ends; closing the page loses unsaved memory files.
About this tool
Does five people include the host?
Yes. One host and up to four approved guests. Every participant can send and receive files.
Can people on different networks join?
They can try the invitation from another network. A direct WebRTC route must open between each sender and recipient. Some networks block it; there is no file relay fallback.
Are five files sent at exactly the same speed?
No. There are five concurrent outgoing delivery slots per person. Each recipient counts separately, and all slots share the sender’s upload bandwidth. Actual speed depends on both networks, browser and disk.
Do you store my files?
No. File contents travel directly between approved browsers. A small safety API handles signed session and admission details plus private abuse reports. Signaling and STUN providers process connection information; connected peers may learn each other’s network address.
What happens after the two-hour limit?
The room closes and unfinished transfers are canceled. Already checked files remain available to save in the open tab. Closing the page loses unsaved memory files. Saved copies cannot be revoked.
Are files checked for viruses?
No. SHA-256 checks that the received bytes match the sent bytes; it does not establish safety or identity. Share only with people you know. Room controls can report a concern about an actual sender.
How is this different from Direct file sharing?
The original tool sends a fixed selection from one sender to up to five recipients, one file at a time. Peer Room is a separate five-person room where everyone can send files, select recipients and use concurrent queues. The original tool remains available.
